Hi everyone, welcome to another Wednesdays Winning lists. Every week I show the lists of the top 5 biggest Warhammer 40.000 tournaments that I can find. Due to the data slate, there were tournaments this weekend with the old rules and the new rules. Because this blog is mainly about lists and no one is interested in the past, I decided to only post the lists with the new rules. The lists I select have a result of x-0 or x-1. After the lists, you can read in this article what my thoughts are about the top 5 best factions in 40k and I describe what is currently going on in the meta. My goal is to mainly provide information to make you a better player. There is a lot of information out there and I hope this article is a nice summary.

Last week I made a prediction for the top five factions with the new rules. If you haven't read this yet, do so soon. With this week's results we get a first glimpse of whether I was right with my predicted top 5.

1. Necrons
The no brainer, Necrons go 5-0 at biggest tournament with the new rules. We see them at the top of all 3 tournaments. It's very clear that Necrons are number 1 and will stay for now. I do think that they will be less dominant than Aeldari and Chaos Space Marines because their rules are not really OP, but rather that they are still a bit too cheap points-wise.

2. Aeldari
I think I predicted Aeldari completely correctly. People adjust their lists and Aeldari is still good. The reason for this is that Aeldari are not the OP rules but Aeldari have always been good in 40k because they are fast, mobile and do a lot of damage. This is simply much better than slow and tanky like Marines, for example. It is also a fact that Aeldari is often played by good players. For example, when I look at the Dutch DTC team, the best players absolutely love Aeldari. But I really think that if you play well you have a good chance against current Eldar. What you shouldn't do is play carefully with them, then they will always want to play. Play with courage, go quickly to the objectives, try to charge them and measure carefully how they will move so that they do not easily shoot you away or have easy challenges.

3. Space Marines
Space Marines have hardly shown themselves in these tournaments. It's still early to say whether the nerfs have had much of an impact. I think you can still play a good Black Templar or Ultra Marine list but I wonder if they can indeed hold the third spot. I don't think the new Dark Angel codex will be very strong, so the Deathwing cannot help the Marines.

4. Tyranids
We won't see Tyranids again either. I think I'm wrong here. Orcs, Death Guard and Votann seem to be doing better now. We'll see with next week's results whether I was indeed wrong.

5. Custodes
Custodes are indeed back. Two placements in the biggest tournament this weekend, is the first sign. We will see next week whether they indeed belong in the top 5.

It's still early to really determine the new meta. I do see that GW has made another good step towards a balanced game. The old Aeldari and Chaos Space Marines were really OP and I don't see a real OP faction now. There are also fewer and fewer real underperformers at the bottom of the Meta and with the changes to Custodes, Grey Knights and especially Druhkari, the factions are coming closer together. So go play what you like! Stop Meta chasing because this will only cost you a lot of money. Put effort into painting a nice army and play the game as it was intended :D
